I was doing some exploring and mapmaking when I stumbled upon cobblestone arrows pointing me to the LABYRINTH! it is a drop into water and a well-lit maze, where you have to find 3 sword fragments in chests! I found the fragments and moved on: only to get attacked at the end by a minotaur and slain.

I still have the fragments in my inventory

Um i came back with iron armor and a diamond sword. I found the minotaur from earlier was gone. I stepped on the pressure plate and fought it. And it killed me again.

That is why it is called a "boss."

Ahh. I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune. The minotaur is very difficult to kill, but it has been done; multiple times. My advice to you is to keep trying. If you succeed, then a very special drop will be awarded to you, as well as access to the furnace, which is where your sword fragments will go.
